Sceptre for Flare and Sceptre for Partisia: what are the differences?

After close to 2 years operating exclusively on Flare, Sceptre added Partisia to its operation. For those familiar with Sceptre for Flare, the liquid staking process remains the same: you stake the network's native token (FLR/wFLR in the case of Flare or MPC on Partisia) and instantly receive a reward-bearing liquid staking token that grows over time.

However, the unique characteristics of each network introduce key differences in the staking process and the overall Sceptre experience you should be aware of, especially if you’re coming from Sceptre for Flare. In this blog post, we detail the key differences Sceptre for Flare stakers need to know when considering staking on Sceptre for Partisia.

Rewards

Staking rewards, the tokens earned for contributing to a network's security through proof-of-stake, vary across different platforms. What sets Sceptre apart is our approach: all rewards, irrespective of the network they originate from, are added to the community pool. This mechanism organically expands our total staked amount, creating a compounding effect that results in collecting more tokens in future distributions.

Stakers on Sceptre for Flare currently receive 2 types of rewards:

- Staking rewards, distributed approximately every 2 weeks.

- Some Delegation rewards, distributed every epoch (~3.5 days).

Stakers on Sceptre for Partisia only receive staking rewards, which are distributed every Wednesday.

This influx of rewards into the pool directly increases the exchange rate of your liquid staking token. Consequently, all rewards earned since you began staking will be inherently reflected in its value relative to its reference token upon unstaking. This brings us to…

Unstaking

Unstaking is a straightforward process, whether you are staked on Flare or Partisia. Simply navigate to the Unstake tab in the app and place your order. Once submitted, an unbonding period will begin:

  • Flare: 14.5 days

  • Partisia: 14 days

After the unbonding period ends, you will have a 48-hour window to claim your wFLR or MPC directly to your connected wallet.

APY

Crypto APYs are driven by supply and demand, compounding frequency, and token inflation. Inflation, in particular, explains why Sceptre for Flare currently offers a lower APY compared to Sceptre for Partisia. As we covered in our May recap, the recent approval of Flare’s FIP.16 proposal cut $FLR inflation by 40% and increased validator fees to 20%. This combination immediately impacted Flare's overall staking yields. In contrast, Partisia has not undergone similar network changes, allowing Sceptre stakers to currently enjoy double-digit APYs.

Liquid Staking tokens

When you stake through Sceptre, you receive a liquid staking token that lets you retain access to your assets while continuing to earn staking rewards - sFLR on Flare and sMPC on Partisia. These tokens are supported by a range of protocols on their respective networks and can be used for activities such as token swaps, providing liquidity, posting collateral, and more.

As Flare's ecosystem is significantly more mature than Partisia's, sFLR is currently integrated with a much larger number of protocols than sMPC. You can explore available earning opportunities for both liquid staking tokens in the Earn section of the app.

And that’s it!

Regardless of the network you choose to stake in, you can count on automatic reward claiming and compounding, alongside a rigorous selection process for validator nodes that prioritizes both security and yield for your assets.
